The Ellis Alicante Foundation has joined the Council of Foundations for Science as a new member, promoted by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). In this way, it joins more than 70 foundations involved in the financing and promotion of research and innovation in Spain.
This Alicante entity is a private research foundation, created thanks to the support and encouragement of the Generalitat Valenciana and dedicated to research of excellence in ethical, responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) and for the Social Good, as indicated by Ellis Alicante in a statement. .
Likewise, it is part of the European network ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems), which is a European initiative to “reinforce scientific excellence in AI research through the attraction, retention and training of excellent research talent in Europe” .
Now, Ellis Alicante has joined the Council of Foundations for Science, which began its journey in March 2014 with the purpose of disseminating and promoting good practices and promoting joint actions and synergies aimed at achieving an increase in investment in science.
Year after year, this organization has been strengthened with public and private foundations that work in the field of science, technology and innovation, and that support and finance science and technology from different aspects, including research, dissemination , training, transfer or infrastructure.
The director of Ellis Alicante, Nuria Oliver, has stated that it is “an honor” for this foundation to be part of the Council of Foundations for Science. “We hope and trust that the FECYT Council of Foundations for Science will help us identify synergies and establish alliances with other scientific foundations, thus multiplying the social impact of our scientific work,” she highlighted.
For his part, the General Director of Innovation of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juan José Cortés Vélez, has pointed out that the Department of Innovation celebrates this annexation to a “key initiative to promote the Spanish scientific ecosystem.”
“Ellis Alicante’s work in responsible Artificial Intelligence and for Social Good is of maximum relevance in today’s society and is framed within the Valencian Artificial Intelligence Strategy, published in 2019,” he stressed.
