MADRID, 19 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Russian Baltic Sea Fleet has announced this Saturday the start, next winter, of “dozens of important exercises” in the Kaliningrad exclave in the midst of the crisis of the conflict in Ukraine.
These exercises, according to a statement collected by Interfax, will have the participation of “aviation units, air defense forces, tanks and motorized riflemen”, the fleet’s press service has made known.
These are “large-scale exercises at various levels” in which “the recent reinforcement of the Army corps with a new division of motorized riflemen” will participate. The Russian Army reported at the time that the new division was a response to increased NATO activity near Russia’s borders.
The exclave is a particularly delicate place because, geographically, it is located between Lithuania and Poland, countries that collaborate with Ukraine in the war.
In fact, this same week the Polish authorities had highlighted the need to build a fence “due to the existing threat from the Kaliningrad area”, after accusing Russia of preparing, together with Belarus, an “artificial migratory wave” in retaliation for his support for kyiv, as denounced at the time by the Polish Defense Minister, Mariusz Blaszczak.
