MADRID, 1 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, has congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for his victory in the presidential elections in Brazil, waiting for any possible complaint about the results to be resolved through “legal channels”.
Guterres spoke on Monday with Lula, whom he already knew from their respective previous political stages, as the spokesman for the United Nations Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, recalled at a press conference.
Regarding the silence of the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, who has not yet acknowledged his defeat, Dujarric has avoided acknowledging a specific concern and has reiterated the advice that the UN transfers to “all countries that hold elections.”
“We hope and want all those who do not agree with the electoral results to use the established constitutional and legal channels,” he explained to the media.
