The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín has advanced to the final of the French Open, in the Super750 category of the BWF World Tour, after beating the reigning world champion, the Japanese Akane Yamaguchi, in the semifinals (21-14, 21-18). .
The Huelva-born, six-time European champion and three-time world champion, started the contest with a 7-0 that the Asian player, also number one in the ranking, could not compensate for, despite a subsequent 5-0 run. Marín claimed the sleeve winning the last four games.
Already in the second set at the Pierre de Coubertin stadium in Paris, he reacted after Yamaguchi went ahead 6-4; at 8-7, he won 10 of the next 12 games to regain the initiative and close out the match in his favor.
In this way, Marín confirms his good form and takes his best victory in his reappearance on the circuit after overcoming the serious knee injury that deprived him of participating and defending his title at the Tokyo Olympics.
