MADRID, 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Jan has announced that next week he will call a “long march” on the capital, Islamabad, in which he hopes to gather hundreds of thousands of supporters to protest the disqualification he was subjected to last Friday for alleged corrupt practices.
The decision of the Electoral Commission of Pakistan, valid for five years, is yet another episode in the long political crisis that has at its epicenter the former prime minister, deposed in a motion of no confidence last April for what he considers an international conspiracy at the service of his great political enemy, also former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
In a press conference late on Saturday and reported by the ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Jan reiterates once again that his main objective is to “get rid of this government” led by Shabhaz Sharif and hopes that the march in preparation will become the tool to get it.
“I will announce the date of the march on Thursday or next Friday, even if they arrest me earlier,” assured the former president. The Commission, it should be remembered, has opened the door to Jan’s criminal prosecution for not disclosing the details of the gifts he received during his time in power from foreign governments, despite the existence of a specific institution responsible for channeling these deliveries.
“This time, the march will be peaceful and people will enjoy it,” Jan assured after the incidents on Friday in several cities in the country, starting with the capital, the scene of massive protests by his followers that forced a police intervention. .
