MADRID, 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Several thousand people have demonstrated this Saturday in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic in the midst of a confrontation between the country’s authorities and the Constitutional Court, to request the calling of a referendum to endorse the reform of the Constitution launched by the president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra.

The Republican Front, a political organization close to the Government and led by Héritier Doneng, has called the protest, the station Radio France International (RFI). “Yes to the referendum and institutional reforms” could be read on some banners according to this medium.

The president’s supporters have demanded that he call a referendum within 30 days and repeal the decree that certifies the appointment of the members of the Constitutional Court. Touadéra himself made a brief appearance to convey that he was “listening to them” and to be patient because he would communicate with them soon.

At the end of August, the Head of State created by decree a commission in charge of drafting the new fundamental law that would allow him to run for a third term, however, after an opposition appeal, the Constitutional Court annulled these decrees.
