MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Spain is the second country that hosts the most competitions (21) on the World Athletics calendar in 2022, only surpassed by the United States with 26 rallies, according to a report presented this week by the International Athletics Federation.
In this way, Spain is at the forefront of the world in organizing one-day competitions, with 21 competitions between open air, indoor track, walk, combined and cross country.
The Spanish organizers shine especially in cross-country, with nine tests (Zornoza, Soria, San Sebastián, Atapuerca, Itálica, Alcobendas, Venta de Baños, Elgoibar and Cáceres) of the 22 World Athletics Cross Country Tour that are held in the world .
No other country comes close to that figure, with Italy and Belgium following in that section with three. Underway, Spain also leads the organization of World Athletics Race Walking Tour competitions with four events (the Spanish Championships of 20 kilometers in Pamplona and 35 in Lepe, the Madrid Marcha LaLiga International Grand Prix and the Cantones de La Coruña International Grand Prix ) of the 23 that make up the global calendar.
Of the 21 competitions, one (the Madrid Meeting) is part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold, the highest level in indoor track events; and another (the Arona International Meeting) is part of the World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold as one of the six most prestigious combined meetings in the world.
The remaining six competitions belong to the World Athletics Continental Tour of outdoor rallies, with the Madrid Meeting in the ‘Silver’ category in the lead; the Iberoamerican Meeting of Huelva and the Jaén Paraíso Interior International Meeting at the ‘Bronze’ level; and the Antonio Cansino Memorial International Meeting in Castellón, the Barcelona City International Athletics Meeting and the Ordizia Meeting with the ‘Challenger’ label.
By score, Madrid ranks ninth out of 18 in its category (82,339 pts), Huelva fifth out of 53 (81,335 pts) and Castellón fifth out of 67 (80,569 pts).
