Warning that “the judges will most likely not sit idly by” with the amnesty

BARCELONA, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The leader of En Comú Podemos and negotiator of Sumar con Junts, Jaume Asens, has affirmed that conditioning the investiture of the socialist candidate, Pedro Sánchez, to a referendum is an “error resulting from last-minute haste”, before what he has requested to ERC responsibility.

He said this in an interview this Saturday on Rac1 collected by Europa Press, the day after the Parliament approved a resolution from ERC and Junts that conditioned the investiture on Sánchez’s commitment to work for the conditions for an independence referendum.

He has assured that this initiative goes beyond the “road map and program that Puigdemont explained” in his conference in Brussels, which is a symbolic resolution and an echo of another era, he said, which generates false expectations and frustration among citizens.

“It is evident that the investiture will be, as the president (Puigdemont) said, in exchange for the amnesty and also for the recognition in Europe, of Catalan, of Europol… But putting it in the investiture folder is a mistake,” has remarked about a referendum.

Asked if he believes that Puigdemont will be able to return to Catalonia in 2023, Asens responded that “the possibility of returning will occur immediately” after the approval of an amnesty.

However, he has warned that “the judges will most likely not sit idly by,” highlighting the importance of designing an amnesty law that passes the filter, he said, of the Constitutional Court.
