LA PALMA, 16 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has summoned the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to comply with the renewal agreement of the Council of the Judicial Power (CGPJ) that his predecessor, Pablo Casado, signed with the Government in autumn 2021, since has underlined that the blockade of the institution, which totals 1,351 days, has already exceeded all precedents.

In statements during a visit to La Palma, Sánchez confirmed that the Government and the PP signed an agreement to renew the CGPJ, a document published on Tuesday by the newspaper El País and which was signed by Minister Félix Bolaños and the then Secretary General of the PP, Teodoro García Egea.

“There was an agreement with the leadership of the PP to renew the Council and I ask you to comply with what was signed, with the law and with the Constitution, which must be fulfilled from the first to the last of its articles,” he said.

As he has said, the CGPJ has already served 1,351 days blocked and that situation is no longer unprecedented in the democratic history of Spain or in all of Europe, and for this reason he has asked for “responsibility” and “institutional loyalty” to the PP of Núñez Feijóo.

“This obstructionist attitude, of blocking, of saying no to everything, is unprecedented,” he stated. “The Government extends its hand, ready to renew the Council tomorrow, and what I ask the PP is to comply with the Constitution , with the law and with the pacts that he signs”.
