MADRID, 24 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Renfe has awarded, for 23 million euros, the supply, installation and commissioning of a GSM-R digital communication system (Global Mobile Communications System for Railways) in 534 conventional gauge public service trains for Cercanías and Media Distancia .

The GSM-R voice communications system, the same one used at high speed and similar to that of mobile telephony, but with specific channels and protocols, is used in radiotelephony for the transmission of information related to railway operation.

Thus, this network allows continuous communication, minimizing interference, between trains and control centers, as explained by the railway company in a statement.

With the installation of this system within the framework of the award, with a completion period of 48 months, a step forward is taken in evolution and digitalization, improving the performance of the previous analog system known as “train-ground.”
