MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

NATO has attributed to an “error” the fact that the Spanish flag was placed upside down in front of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, in the room where the Alliance leaders are meeting, and has apologized to the Government .

“Due to an error, the Spanish flag has been placed incorrectly at the beginning of the summit,” Alliance spokeswoman Oana Lungescu explained on Twitter, stressing that “the error has been corrected immediately.”

“NATO expresses its sincere apologies for this error and thanks Spain for the incredible reception of the summit,” he added, accompanying his message with a photo in which Sánchez can already be seen and the flag well placed.

Government sources stress that it was a mistake by NATO, which is in charge of the entire organization and protocol of the Summit. In addition, members of the Alliance have immediately contacted the Spanish Executive to apologize.

As they explain, the flag was badly placed in the place from which the president made his first speech as host of the Summit, together with the leader of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg. Instead, he was in the correct position in Spain’s place at the meeting table, which Sánchez occupied immediately afterwards.
