MADRID, 14 (EUROPA PRESS)

At least five Palestinians died this Wednesday after an explosion was recorded on the eastern border of the Gaza Strip in the midst of violent clashes with the Israeli Army that have left at least 25 injured.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the figure in a brief statement on its official Facebook profile and specified that the bodies have been transferred to Al Shifa hospital. He had previously reported several injuries from the clashes.

For its part, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have detailed on the social network “Several cases of activation of charges and throwing of grenades were identified,” he added.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has paid tribute to the five deceased, whom it has identified as Mohamed Omar Qadum, Bara Wael al Zard, Ahmed Ezedine al Jabari, Naser Rami Nofal, Fares Matar and Ali Juma Ayad.

“The blood and souls of the martyrs (…) confirm that the confrontation with the enemy and the battle against him throughout the nation will continue until he is expelled from our land and his colonial project is dismantled and eliminated completely, no matter what sacrifices it costs,” Hamas said in a statement.

Protests at the border are common. Palestinian protesters demand that Israel lift its restrictions on the Strip and end its repressive policies against Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israeli territory.

The clashes coincide with a series of military maneuvers carried out this week by several Palestinian armed groups, which fired projectiles into the Mediterranean Sea, amid the rise in tensions and violence.
