A multi-million pound subcontract has been awarded to HUBER SUHNER to supply low frequency and radio frequency cable harnesses for the British Army’s Boxer MIV programme.

HERISAU, Switzerland, Sept. 11, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The contract ensures that Boxer vehicles will be equipped with wiring harnesses that will provide safe, reliable and mission-critical operation for British Army Boxer crews.

With a global presence in 80 countries, HUBER SUHNER will carry out the work at its Oxfordshire and Staffordshire sites, to secure qualified UK manufacturing functions for the Boxer programme.

The contract will also support growth, including the hiring of additional positions in engineering and operations, with further hiring anticipated in the coming years.

HUBER SUHNER will deliver the first batch of cables in the third quarter of 2023, providing a range of common electrical parts as well as specific cables to meet the most stringent performance requirements of the UK Ministry of Defence.

The MIV program

The £2.3bn Mechanized Infantry Vehicle (MIV) overall contract was announced in November 2019 between the UK Ministry of Defense and ARTEC, a joint venture between Rheinmetall Landsysteme, Rheinmetall Defense Nederland B.V and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The contract will deliver more than 600 Boxer vehicles to the British Army.

Vehicle production is outsourced equally between RBSL and KNDS. The companies will undertake the manufacturing of the armored vehicle structures along with assembly, integration and testing of the complete vehicles at their respective facilities in Telford and Stockport, with support from the UK supply chain.
