MADRID, 3 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish rider Augusto Fernández (Kalex), who this Sunday will compete for the world title in the Moto2 category with the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex) at the Comunitat Valencia Grand Prix, is clear that he wants to make the “weekend be as simple as possible” and that he sees himself with the possibility of being on the podium, which would ensure him the championship, because he feels “strong” at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
“What I want is for this weekend’s work to be as simple as possible and forget about the main thing. I want to plan a normal weekend, build confidence with the bike and with the set-up from Friday. I want to fight for the victory on Sunday”, Fernandez admitted at a press conference with his rival for the title, Ai Ogura.
He does not arrive in Cheste as the leader because he crashed on the last lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix, something that left the man from Madrid “surprised” who felt “a lot of frustration” that Sunday. “I had some problems with the rear tire and I couldn’t fight with it, it was a very tough race and to see it crash afterwards was a big surprise, but in Australia I made the mistake and in Malaysia he made the mistake,” he warned.
The man from Madrid does not think about his 9.5 point advantage over his rival. “I know finishing on the podium will be enough and I want to win because I think it’s possible and I feel strong at this circuit, there’s no reason why we can’t do it,” he stressed.
The Spaniard has not spoken with the boss of his team, former driver Aki Ajo, because they do not do so “never before the weekends” of the Grand Prix. “He always tells me to make it as simple as possible, but if we have to have a mini-conversation, we will, but we want to keep things normal,” said the championship leader.
Fernández insisted that his preparation for this decisive race has been “normal”. “It’s not difficult to prepare it, I don’t think about Australia nor do I think he thinks about Malaysia. I only focus on Valencia and having a good weekend, I’m not going to think about him until Sunday either,” he said.
