The FC Barcelona player Alejandro Balde arrived in Doha this Saturday to join the Spanish squad in the World Cup, after being called up at the last minute due to José Luis Gaya’s injury, and was received by the national coach and his teammates, at who recognized that he could not be happier.
“It’s a dream for me, I still don’t believe I’m here. I’m here to take advantage of the opportunity. Not a year ago, not three months ago, and even a week ago, they even told me I’m here and I don’t believe it “, he pointed out in a video broadcast on social networks by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), upon his arrival in Doha.
Balde, who went from being concentrated with the Under-21 team in Seville, to traveling to the Asian country in less than 24 hours to play the World Cup, was excited and willing to make the most of the opportunity. “I have spoken with Ansu Fati and with Nico Williams. They have congratulated me and I am very happy to be with them and willing to take advantage of the opportunity to the maximum”, indicated him.
The left-back also told how he received the news of his call-up from the ‘La Rojita’ coach. “I was in the room with Pablo Torre and suddenly they called me, Luis de la Fuente called me and told me to go up to the meeting room and there he told me he was going to Qatar,” he said.
With four days to go before the start of the national team’s journey in the World Cup, the young player from Barca has a clear objective. “My first call-up that is direct to a World Cup, is that I don’t believe it. I hope to take the cup home”, concluded a happy rookie.
