Baskonia resurges with a bang against Maccabi

MADRID, 3 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cazoo Baskonia struck down (116-87) Maccabi this Thursday on the sixth day of the Euroleague, a perfect match and on track from very early on at the Fernando Buesa Arena to recover the taste of victory and the good feelings.

The last two weeks left two unexpected defeats for the Basques who passed on to a better life with the exhibition against the Tel Aviv team. Joan Peñarroya’s team recovered its offensive potential and its solidity at the back to devastate one of the best defenses in the competition and a direct rival above whom they equal 4-2.

A 63-42 score at half-time confirmed the move to the front of those from Vitoria, who rounded off their night with a Buesa Arena showing once again the euphoria that their new team transmits to them. Markus Howard (23 points) was once again the trigger from the 3-point line, with a great game also from Kotsar (18), Darius Thompson (15), Marinkovic, Giedraitis and Costello.

Despite having the game on track, Baskonia did not tire of scoring. After five minutes the gale was already in sight (19-10), which was unleashed with Howard’s entry from the bench. The triple man did his thing and quickly found allies (30-17). He needed to tie his rebound to the local team, although Peñarroya did not allow even a second of relaxation.

In the second quarter, Howard’s festival continued to put the difference in the score, with Costello also doing everything. The Spanish international Lorenzo Brown and Nebo were the sustenance of a Maccabi that still clung to the game with small tails. Before the break, Baskonia aborted the biggest of them and after the break they dominated the rhythm of the game without surprises.

Thompson took the controls along with Kotsar and the game was seen for judgment, although for the enjoyment of the stands, after the last visitor attempt by former Basque Baldwin IV. Howard’s defensive steals, dunks and three-pointers delighted Buesa Arena, happy as it had been for a long time, with Pierria Henry still waiting for more minutes.
