Baskonia seeks the plenary session against Red Star
MADRID, 18 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Tuesday at the Fernando Buesa Arena (8:30 p.m./DAZN), Cazoo Baskonia is looking for a new victory on matchday three in the Euroleague that will allow it to start the continental season with three consecutive wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season, all against a Red Star that has succumbed in its first two clashes.
Joan Peñaroya’s men, seventh in the Endesa League (2-2) after beating Casademont Zaragoza over the weekend (83-97), have started the Euroleague Regular Phase in the best way, where they have prevailed in their two first commitments and have the best scoring rate in the competition -92 points per game-.
In their continental debut at La Fonteta, home last season of the now Baskonia coach, they defeated Valencia Basket (71-81), and last week they also managed to beat Partizan in extra time in their first home game (103-96 ).
Now, in a week of three games at the Buesa Arena -Estrella Roja, Olympiacos and Real Madrid-, the Basque team hosts the other team from Belgrade, a seasoned and aggressive team that, however, has yielded in its first two European games against Anadolu Efes (72-59) and Panathinaikos (75-77).
“It is evident that we are in a process of improvement. We are attacking more or less well, we are having success, but surely we need to have a little more fluidity in attack. Above all, in defensive aspects we have room for improvement. We have to take a step ahead in the control of the defensive rebound and even in the offensive”, warned Peñarroya.
Once again, the Catalan coach will not be able to count on an important man for the inside game like the American Steven Enoch, who has missed the first two games of the tournament due to an ankle injury, and the Estonian Maik Kotsar -MVP of the first day- and the North American Matt Costello will be in charge of making his absence forgotten.
With a balance of 7-7 this century in games between the two, the Serbian squad will seek its first win of the season in Vitoria, where point guard Stefan Markovic and shooting guard Nemanja Nedovic, both former Unicaja and Valencia Basket players, will not be present.
