MADRID, 5 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Capital Energy has signed an agreement with Cementos Alfa, a subsidiary of Cementos Portland Valderrivas, for the supply of renewable energy to the cement company’s factory in Mata Porquera (Cantabria), in one of the largest self-consumption contracts signed to date in Spain. the company reported.
Under the terms of the agreement, the energy company undertakes to supply, at a competitive rate established through a long-term PPA signed under a self-consumption scheme with surpluses, around 80,000 megawatt hours (MWh) per year of energy generated by, in principle, five wind farms that the company is promoting in Cantabria.
The energy will be produced by, in principle, five wind farms whose development is already being promoted in the region and which total around 145.5 megawatts (MW) of power.
The agreement has been presented to the Ministers of Development, Territorial Planning and Environment of the Cantabrian Government, Roberto Media Sainz; and Industry, Employment, Innovation and Commerce, Eduardo Arasti, on behalf of the director of the Cementos Alfa plant, Beatriz Malagón, and the head of Promotion in Cantabria of Capital Energy, Andrea Cebrecos.
The agreement reached between both companies contemplates the supply of this ‘green’ energy through the substation owned by Cementos Alfa and the discharge of surplus energy into the national grid through the Mata Porquera substation, owned by Red Eléctrica de España, with which the first is connected.
Thanks to it, Capital Energy, which has been promoting renewable installations in Cantabria since 2017, takes another step in its commitment to the development of this autonomous community and the promotion of the ecological and fair transition in it.
The CEO of Capital Energy, Juan José Sánchez, highlighted that through this agreement to supply renewable energy to a client so relevant to the Cantabrian industrial fabric, the renewable group reaffirms its commitment “not only to the progressive decarbonization of the economy, but also with the environmental and socioeconomic well-being of Cantabria”.
For her part, Beatriz Malagón, director of the Cementos Alfa plant, considered that with this measure the Mata Porquera factory would meet one of the objectives established in the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law, as well as in the National Integrated Energy and Energy Plan. Climate (PNIEC) 2021-2030, that of the contribution of at least 42% of renewable energies in final energy consumption, “which is also one of the milestones proposed in the Energy Transition and Climate Neutrality Plan 2021-2030 of the company”.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Commerce of the Cantabrian Government, Eduardo Arasti, assured that initiatives like this “create synergies between companies based in the region and energy producers and can serve as an example for new avenues of agreement between generating companies. of green energy and potential electro-intensive consumers, favoring both sustainable development and the survival of the Cantabrian industrial fabric”.
Capital Energy has two wind projects in an advanced stage of development in the community, Bustatur and Alsa, which have a combined installed power of more than 60 MW. Their construction would entail an investment of more than 90 million euros, as well as the creation of more than 290 direct jobs during the peak periods of the works and a tax contribution of more than 9.8 million euros throughout. throughout its useful life.
Apart from its contribution to the social and economic development of Cantabria, the Capital Energy project would generate important environmental value, since with this renewable capacity some 151,000 megawatt hours (MWh) per year of clean electricity could be generated, equivalent to the energy consumption of more of 58,000 homes, and the emission into the atmosphere of nearly 56,000 tons of CO2 would be avoided.
Furthermore, apart from the signing of this agreement with Cementos Alfa and another, at the beginning of the year, with Copsesa, the group is hiring the services of local companies and entities, mainly consulting firms, such as Adra Ingeniería y Gestión del Medio, Ambium Consultores, BHS Environmental Consultants, University of Cantabria, Taneao GAEM.
