Iberdrola has received the award for best energy storage promoter in the second edition of the Renmad Awards, as reported by the company this Saturday.

This award values ??the contribution of projects that are “breaking new ground and certainty” in the sector, follow the principles of just transition and have a positive impact on society and the local economy.

The head of special projects at Iberdrola Renovables, Alexander Arias, has highlighted that storage systems are “key” to addressing the challenge of the energy transition and has predicted that they will become an “essential element” in the electrical system.

Iberdrola already has four operational batteries with a total of 19 megawatts (MW) in Spain and has just announced the installation of another six, with a power of 150 MW.

The projects will be built in Castilla y León, Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha and Andalusia and each battery will have 25 MW of power and a capacity of 50 megawatt hours (MWh).

The company also stands out in energy storage through pumping technology, with a power of 4.5 gigawatts (GW) installed in Spain and Portugal. Likewise, it has just received administrative authorization for a new pumping project in Valdecañas (Cáceres).
