MADRID, 9 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish golfer Jon Rahm won the Sentry Tournament of Champions this Sunday, an event belonging to the American PGA circuit, after signing a great comeback on the last day and snatching victory from Collin Morikawa.

The man from Barrika was seven shots behind the American on the last day, but was able to bring out his best game to win in Hawaii, where the 39 winners of the previous year gathered and where the season started.

The Biscayan golfer did not start well, with a ‘bogey’ on hole 1 that left him nine strokes from victory, but from then on he was unstoppable and scored nine ‘birdies’ and a spectacular ‘eagle’ to close his card with 63 shots, ten under par.

His masterful round also had a little ‘help’ from a Morikawa, who had played at a high level the first three days, but could only score 72 (-1). The American, champion of the British Open (2021) and the PGA Championship (2020), saw Rahm overcome his six-shot lead in the last seven holes.

“It’s been a bit of a crazy day, I’m not going to lie. I was thinking that I was going to need a small miracle and after the ‘bogey’ on hole 1, I was going to need something like a bigger miracle,” said the Basque, that he achieved his eighth victory on the PGA tour and that he confessed that he feels that “since August” he has been “the best player in the world.”
