“I want to show that faith in me is justified and that I can be a winner”
BARCELONA, Nov. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The cyclist Juanpe López will continue in the Trek-Segafredo team for the next three seasons, until 2025, after both parties reach a renewal agreement, and the Spaniard hopes to repay the trust placed in him with victories and show that he can be a champion of a Grand Tour .
“Juanpe López has signed a contract extension that allows him to remain in the team colors until 2025. Despite the current contract for 2023, López and Trek-Segafredo have committed to two more years together,” the team announced.
A renewal that leaves the 25-year-old from Lebrija happy. “Since joining Trek-Segafredo in 2019 I have grown a lot as a person and a rider. I feel like the environment the team has created has been perfect for me and my ride and continues to be where I want to be,” he said.
“By extending my contract early, Luca and the team are really showing that they trust me and that they believe in me like I believe in myself. That’s a super special feeling and I really want to be able to prove the next three years that it was worth the sorry,” he argued.
Juanpe López stood out for the first time in a Grand Tour at this year’s Giro d’Italia, when he wore the leader’s ‘pink jersey’ for ten days and finished tenth overall. However, he is still chasing his first victory as a professional cyclist. His best result was being second in a stage of that last Giro.
“While the Giro d’Italia was, of course, very special for me this year, the Vuelta did not go as I expected or wanted, on a personal performance level. I am really looking forward to being able to show the team that their faith in me is justified and that I can also be a winner”, he predicted.
For his part, the general manager of the Trek-Segafredo team, Luca Guercilena, believes that López deserves to have the support of the team after constantly showing his potential in the last two years.
“Juanpe is a talented young man who I think has earned our trust and commitment since he joined us as a ‘stagiaire’ about three years ago. We have seen this year that he is taking steps forward and remains very willing to learn from the most veterans,” he valued.
In the team, his performance in the 2022 Giro stands out, where he was also the best young man. “This performance really cemented what we, as a team, had already been discussing – that we wanted to invest more in his career and extend his existing contract ahead of time. We really believe that Juanpe is capable of developing the potential that we see in him.” .
