VALENCIA, 12 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Mercadona has increased its net profits by 40 percent, reaching 1,009 million euros in 2023, after registering a 15% increase in its sales, which have amounted to 35,527 million euros.

This was stated by the president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, during the company’s annual press conference in which he communicated Mercadona’s economic data for the year 2023 and the forecasts for 2024. The event was attended by company executives, among them, the vice president of the chain, Hortensia Herrero.

The supermarket company has achieved a turnover of around 34,000 million in Spain and 1,400 euros in Portugal, increasing its market share by 0.6% in Spain, reaching 27.6% of the total. The market share has risen to 8% in Portugal.

This is the first year in which the company has not recorded losses in Portugal, since it began its journey in the Portuguese market. In addition, Mercadona has grown by 5,000 jobs with permanent contracts compared to the previous year, reaching a workforce of 104,000 people in the two countries.

Likewise, Juan Roig highlighted that the company has reduced the price of 1,000 products between April 2023 and February. Thus, he has pointed out that raw material prices are falling.
