WASHINGTON, June 5, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The U.S. The Institute of Peace (USIP) announces that nominations are open for the 2023 Women Peacebuilders Award. This prestigious annual award honors courageous women in civil society who build peace in countries affected by violent conflict.

Countless women risk their lives to create peace in their communities, leading movements for justice, security and inclusion, even though their efforts often go unnoticed. USIP is committed to doing more to support and celebrate these women and the impact they have as catalysts of change and agents of peace.

The nomination period will be open until July 31, 2023. USIP invites organizations and individuals from around the world to participate in identifying and honoring exceptional women who have dedicated their lives to building peace. The laureate will be recognized at a ceremony organized by USIP at the end of the year and will receive a cash prize.

USIP strongly encourages applications from women who have not previously been recognized for their peacebuilding work.

Entries will be considered based on award criteria, including: the nominee’s commitment to peace, exceptional leadership, outstanding practice in implementing a peacebuilding plan, and the impact of your work. The 2023 award winner will be chosen by the Council of Women Peacebuilders, a group of distinguished experts who advise USIP on gender and peacebuilding issues.

Previous recipients of the Women Peacebuilders Award include María Eugenia Mosquera Riascos, from Colombia, Josephine Ekiru, from Kenya, and Rita Lopidia, from South Sudan. Twenty-four women have been recognized by USIP as finalists for the award since its inception in 2019.
