MADRID, 14 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, has once again rejected the possibility that the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, visit the Spanish soldiers deployed in Latvia and has instead proposed a visit with the contingent once they return to Spain.
This is stated in a letter addressed to the PP Institutional Vice-Secretary and MEP, Esteban González Pons, who was the one who this Monday asked the Ministry of Defense by letter to set a date for Feijóo to visit the soldiers deployed in the mission of the NATO on the Latvian border with Russia.
“Dear Esteban”, heads the letter from the minister, collected by Europa Press. In it, Robles proposes to the ‘popular’ a “broad meeting” with the Spanish contingent that is now in Latvia once they return to Spain.
As he justifies, this will allow the PP to know the mission “in depth and without time limitations or the haste of a punctual visit and conditioned by the dynamics of an area of ??operations.” Moreover, Robles anticipates that she will be “delighted” to be able to accompany the representatives of the PP in that meeting.
In the letter, the minister underlines that the Ministry of Defense feels “deeply proud” of its Armed Forces and assures that one of its priorities is to improve their capabilities and provide them with a budget so that, “overcoming times in the past in which there were not enough investments “, they can fulfill the missions entrusted to them.
“That is why I am pleased to know that you want to convey your gratitude to the members of the Armed Forces,” he replies to the PP about his request to visit the mission in Latvia. “I want to suppose that your interest is extensive to all the missions that our Armies carry out abroad and in Spain”, he replies.
In this way, Robles rejects for the second time Feijóo’s claim to visit the Spanish troops abroad. The first was in February, when he said that the PP leader would be “very well received” in any military unit “but” not when operations are being carried out that could distort the visit “.
