HSINCHU, Jan. 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Brain Navi has announced the completion of its 100th case using its NaoTrac neurosurgical navigation robot. The 100th case was performed by Dr. Hao-Yu Chuang, director of the Department of Neurosurgery at Annan Hospital in Tainan (Taiwan).

“It is my pleasure to witness this important milestone demonstrating the continued clinical adoption of the NaoTrac surgical navigation robot. I am pleased and continue to offer this cutting-edge surgical technology to my patients,” said Dr. Hao-Yu Chuang. “One of the main advantages compared to other systems is that we can accurately record cranial anatomy in any patient position, including lateral and prone positions.”

Several hospitals in Taiwan have already installed the system. Chun-Chung Chen, director of the Department of Neurosurgery of China Medical University Hospital, highlighted: “In the past, we could only treat ICH blood clot blindly, now we can plan the path, check in real time and complete the procedure perfectly. Another director, Dr. Jeng-Hung Guo, explained: “The rapid registration of NaoTrac reduces surgical intervention time and speeds up patients’ recovery. NaoTrac has worked very well in cases of intracerebral hemorrhage, especially with hematomas of the brain. less than 30 ml but with severe symptoms, and has provided an alternative solution to those patients instead of waiting for self-absorption.”

The first adopter of the NaoTrac surgical robot is Hualien Tzu Chi Medical Center, which has been using the system for brain surgeries since the first clinical case on November 7, 2018. Superintendent Dr. Shinn-Zong Lin stated: “The “NaoTrac is just what all neurosurgeons want. It can make the doctor’s dream come true and allow disabled patients to come back to life.” Professor Tsung-Lang Chiu published the first medical journal article on NaoTrac and showed the effectiveness and economic benefits, he explained: “The NaoTrac robotic system is very easy to incorporate into our practice and workflow and bring efficiencies to our neurosurgeons and hospitals.

To avoid the long and frustrating registration process, the NaoTrac incorporates machine vision technology and completes patient and instrument registration within 30 seconds to 3 minutes. The NaoTrac system received CE mark in April 2021 and Taiwan FDA approval in July 2022. During the initial market launch, along with international conferences, Brain Navi has been able to gather valuable feedback from a large number of neurosurgeons and continue to integrate those ideas into the NaoTrac platform to meet market needs.

Dr. Jerry Chen, CEO of Brain Navi, said: “We are very pleased that these 100 procedures were completed without any complications. 2024 will be the year that marks the beginning of our international expansion as we have begun collaborating with partners from the United States, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Latin America and Malaysia, as well as Taiwan. In this way, we will be able to bring this technology to more hospitals to streamline their workflows in the operating room and, ultimately, benefit more patients.”
