LONDON, June 1, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — International Mountain Tourism Day 2023 kicked off in Vientiane, Laos on May 29, with the theme “Enjoy the wonder of mountains, share the beauty of life and revitalize the tourism industry. Organized by Lao PDR Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF) , and with the support of the UNWTO, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTCV), the ASEAN-China Center, the CNIE, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Guizhou Province Foreign Affairs Office, the event brought together more than 250 participants to discuss the mountain tourism offer, market development and solutions for new consumer demands.
Notable guests included Ounethouang Khaophanh, Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Fu Yingchun, Vice President and Executive Secretary General of IMTA; Phouvong Vongkhamsao, Deputy Mayor of Vientiane (Laos); Zhang Xilong, former inspector of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Xu Peng, vice president of the World Tourism Alliance (WTA); Phengchanh Phengmuang, Director General of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR; Emma Chen, World Vice President of the Internationale Organization Für Volkskunst (IOV); Darany Phommavongsa, Director General of the Department of Tourism Business Management, Lao PDR Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism; Franka Gulin, President of the Chinese Section of the European Travel Commission; Inthy Deuansavanh, Member of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Goto Satoshi, Vice President of the Asian Union of Speleology. Ounethouang Khaophanh and Fu Yingchun delivered keynote addresses, and Peter Semone (PATA President), Pansy Ho (GTEF and AIMT Vice President), Zhu Shanzhong (UNWTO Tourism Ambassador), Dou Enyong (Vice President of UNWTO CNIE) and Shi Zhongjun (Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Center), representing other organizers and international organizations, delivered video speeches.
Francesco Frangialli (former UNWTO Secretary General), Emma Chen, Franka Gulin, Jin Zhun (CASS Secretary General) and Song Liguo (Trip.com Group representative) delivered keynote addresses. Wu Mai, Deputy Secretary General of the International Mountain Tourism Association, released the Vientiane Consensus for International Mountain Tourism Day 2023: Revitalize Tourism and Create a Bright Future Together.
