PARIS, April 18, 2023/PRNewswire/ — Industries are facing increasingly demanding regulations and consumer expectations for transparency and end-to-end traceability. This has become a top priority, in a landscape of increasingly complex and distributed global supply chains. As the need for a digital product passport has become crucial, OPTEL has worked with IBM, the integrator of the XCEED blockchain-based platform for end-to-end compliance in industries such as automotive. As the developer of Optchain, a complete traceability solution, OPTEL joined forces with IBM to establish interoperability between the two platforms and implement seamless data bridges. This demonstrates how collaboration in leveraging innovative technologies brings transparency applicable across various sectors such as automotive, aeronautics and industrial products, starting with the use case of the end-to-end battery supply chain in the context of the Global Battery Alliance (GBA).
This collaboration demonstrated how the complex battery supply chain, facing significant traceability challenges from critical minerals at source, to passport management and end of life batteries, can be facilitated using a business network based on blockchain. The success of this first step was facilitated by the agility and adaptability of the parties involved, which allowed for a multi-stakeholder approach to data sharing and project management.
This interoperability initiative is based on a shared vision of the value generated by interoperable traceability platforms to facilitate the flow of data between multiple actors, geographies, materials and products. The association also aims to ensure the responsible management of batteries in the European Union (required, in particular, by the EU Data Law1 and the EU Battery Regulation2).
“This is a game changer for the industry, and we are delighted to lead this innovative leap forward. Upcoming regulations require linking several different industries to ensure end-to-end transparency. Interoperability will allow companies, without changing their legacy system , benefit from the creation of powerful and reliable new products and services, thus taking advantage of multiple platforms simultaneously,” explained Odile Panciatici, creator of the XCEED initiative.
“When it comes to sharing traceability, ESG and GHG data, this partnership is an exciting step towards advancing industry interoperability and widespread adoption of enterprise ecosystem platforms for the automotive industry. Seamless integration is possible and feasible using known standards,” said Ken Fallu, OPTEL Global Director of Strategy, Mining and Environment.
