-Shanghai Electric signs agreement with Johnson Controls at CIIE 2023 with plans to establish a laboratory that drives greener urban development

SHANGHAI, Nov. 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Electric (SEHK: 2727, SSE: 601727) announced the signing of the “Carbon Joint Laboratory” Strategic Cooperation Agreement

“The establishment of the joint laboratory will further deepen the collaboration between Shanghai Electric and Johnson Controls in the green, sustainable and low-carbon development of cities. It will allow us to leverage our complementary strengths to facilitate the coordinated development of energy and charging sources and leverage the seamless integration of digital and smart solutions to explore cooperation opportunities in various scenarios, including cities, industrial parks, streets and buildings. Together, we aim to create integrated solutions and smart service platforms that combine multiple energy sources, such as electricity, cold, heat and gas, jointly promoting a green and low-carbon transformation,” said Liu Ping, president of Shanghai Electric.

Industrial parks are characterized by high energy consumption and carbon footprint. They account for about 69% of total energy consumption and 31% of carbon emissions in China, and are the main sources of carbon emissions in urban areas that are expected to increase along with socioeconomic growth. Despite their heavy carbon impact, these manufacturing centers serve as a critical economic driver: more than 20,000 nationwide contribute more than 30% of economic expansion.

In a concerted effort to address environmental challenges linked to energy-dense industrial sectors, Shanghai Electric and Johnson Controls have joined forces to devise innovative solutions designed to reduce the carbon footprint of manufacturing facilities while improving their efficiency. in energy use. The two companies have jointly developed the Standard for Zero-Carbon Industrial Park Implementation Route Planning and Assessment Guidelines, establishing a robust framework that facilitates China’s ongoing mission to decarbonize its industrial zones.

Unveiled at the China International Industry Fair 2023, the Standard sets out guidelines on “a digital platform” as a management basis for carbon-neutral parks, “nine technology pathways” in key areas, as well as the strategy to adopt a “source-based integrated grid-load energy-storage system that helps industrial parks maximize emissions reductions at the lowest cost.

The roots of the business alliance between Shanghai Electric and Johnson Controls date back to 2015 for collaborative efforts in the fields of zero-carbon technology and green development. The pair will continue their shared mission of promoting environmentally conscious and low-carbon development, deepening their cooperation as they jointly explore smart technology for industrial parks and buildings, the development of energy-efficient and green products, and next-generation energy storage products.
