– The Embassy of Turkey in Astana thanks the people of Kazakhstan for the support provided to the victims of the earthquake

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Turkish Embassy thanked the citizens of Kazakhstan and organizations such as the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation for donating more than $10 million to the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD ) to help the victims of the deadly earthquake that took place this February and provide support to deal with the consequences of the natural disaster.

The assistance provided by the Kazakhs included humanitarian aid beyond monetary support. A 100-person rescue team arrived in Gaziantep the day after the earthquake to save the victims who had been trapped under the rubble. Meanwhile, many Kazakh citizens came together to buy emergency supplies such as diesel generators, tents, blankets and sleeping bags, which were delivered by a Turkish Airlines plane to Turkish charities.

“We greatly appreciate this important and timely aid, which continues the tradition of cooperation and mutual assistance between our brother peoples,” said Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Kapuca.

And he thanked the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation for its donation of 5 million dollars. The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation was established in 2014. Since then, the foundation has donated funds to victims of natural disasters in Kazakhstan, along with its other areas of activity. Helping to cope with the shocking tragedy in Turkey was part of the foundation’s philanthropic efforts abroad.

The devastating earthquake in southeastern Turkey killed at least 45,000 people and destroyed or severely damaged more than 160,000 buildings, leaving millions homeless. The World Bank estimated the damage from the quake at $34 billion.
