The Bakonia looks for the crest of the wave

Those of Peñarroya aspire to reaffirm their plenary against an Olympiacos executioner of Real Madrid and Barça

MADRID, 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Cazoo Baskonia faces Olympiacos this Friday on the fourth day of the Euroleague, in a Fernando Buesa Arena that is beginning to see a year of joy in the highest continental competition, undefeated at the moment and with a new project that works.

Joan Peñarroya’s team has a promising three out of three in Europe, with great performances against Valencia Basket, Partizan and this week against Estrella Roja. The weekly double ration is one more challenge for the Basques, against a rival who is also 3-0.

Wednesday’s performance had, like last week, Markus Howard as a great architect with 30 points, seven triples. The American leads the scoring facet of a Baskonia that went to 19 triples, while last week he made 17 to Partizan.

The Basque team is inspired and also knows how to get their act together in defence. For that, Peñarroya seems infallible in the band, a new coach that many already see as perfect for the position. Runner-up in Europe in 2001 and 2005, Baskonia trusts that they have found the key to recover their place in the Old Continent.

There are four undefeated teams so far, and Olympiacos seems to continue their great last season, in which they reached the semi-finals against the odds. Those of Georgios Bartzokas also hope to continue the streak against Spanish teams, since among their victims this start are Barça and Real Madrid.

The white team lost at home to the Greeks on Wednesday, a tough match that the away side decided at the end for a basket by Kostas Sloukas. Thus, Olympiacos, led by Sasha Vezenkov, is also full of confidence, facing a duel that promises to ride the crest of the European wave.
