MADRID, 5 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) has authorized in the first phase the acquisition operation by Nex Continental Holdings, an Alsa company, of the Canarian bus group 1844.

According to the records of the CNMC, the authorization process began on January 11, and the board of the regulatory body gave its approval to the operation on January 31, directly in the first phase.

The origins of Grupo 1844 date back to the founding of a mechanical workshop that, over the years, has evolved into the passenger transport sector, specializing in bus service.

The growth of this passenger transport parent company in recent times has led to the creation of several of its own companies whose purpose is to alleviate the needs in the sector.

In fact, the operation concerns a multitude of subsidiaries of the group such as Betancuria, Canary Tourist, Hermanos Díaz Melián, Innobus Canarias, Kintasur, León Tenerife, Segurbus or Transportes Antonio Díaz Hernández, among others.

Its fleet is made up of more than 900 coaches, which transport more than 14 million travelers each year on the five Canary Islands.

In 2019, Alsa carried out a similar operation in that territory, with the acquisition of the Gumidafe bus company, based in Gáldar, in the north of the Island of Gran Canaria.

Until then, the company was only present in the Canary Islands through its participation in Tenerife City View, the tourist bus of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, so this new acquisition continues its line of continuing to grow on the islands.
