The National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) has given the ‘green light’ to the venture capital fund Hyperion Fund FCR, launched by, among others, the former leader of the PP Pablo Casado and Ana Botín’s nephew, Ricardo Goméz-Acebo Botín, which will invest in the fields of aerospace, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence and dual-use defense, excluding weapons and lethal equipment in compliance with article 8 of the Regulation on the disclosure of information on sustainable financing.

The objective of this fund is to raise 150 million euros to invest in European emerging technology companies, with special attention to Spanish SMEs, to support their growth, competitiveness and internationalization. The manager of this fund is Singular Asset Management, belonging to Singular Bank.

The four partners of the investment team are experts in security and industrial defense, such as Joaquín Ortiz Escobar and José Antonio Bartrina Giménez, in geostrategy and international relations, such as Pablo Casado Blanco, and in finance and investment such as Ricardo Gómez-Acebo Botín, as well as Daniel Lorrain, as principal.

In addition, it has an international advisory council made up of the former Secretary General of NATO and former Prime Minister of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the ambassador and former Undersecretary of State for Global Affairs of the United States, Paula Dobriansky, or the former Minister of Defense, Interior, Justice and Foreign Affairs of France, Michèle Alliot-Marie. It also features Saab CIO Robert Murray, Rothschild senior advisor Richard Hurowitz, and unicorn investors Martin Varsavsky and Nicole Junkermann.

The main investor is the Nortia family office, also a shareholder in Sacyr, Merlin and Arcano, as well as the fund managers Q-energy, McWin, Serena and Seaya, in which it is also the reference investor along with Iberdrola of the Andromeda background.

The Hyperion Fund FCR investment team has “very advanced” a portfolio of projects with a “high estimated profitability”, which can constitute for potential investors an opportunity for financial diversification and sector differentiation, being “one of the first European funds in this vertical”.
