MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, has urgently requested a meeting with the new Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, to address the situation of Cercanías Madrid, “which is deteriorating day by day.”

This request comes after a new derailment in a Cercanías Madrid train that has affected five lines of the network and medium and long distance trains today, on the eve of the Constitution Bridge, Europa Press has been informed by the Ministry of Transport who have recalled that it happens a week after another derailment.

“We are not talking about specific delays or failures in the service but about incidents that affect the safety of users,” lamented Rodrigo, who has blamed the central government, which “continues not to invest in this infrastructure.”

For this reason, Councilor Rodrigo has demanded that the central Executive “exercise its powers once and for all and act responsibly because we cannot continue like this and so far this year there have been 708 incidents that affect the railway network and that cause serious harm to the citizens of Madrid.

In addition to insisting on the lack of investment in the Commuter Network of the Community of Madrid, Minister Rodrigo added that “Spain is much more than Sánchez’s infamous pacts.”

In this regard, Rodrigo has stressed that, from the Department of Transport, through the Regional Consortium, an operation has been launched to serve travelers from the affected Cercanías lines, if necessary, by reinforcing Metro Line 1. In addition, the EMT has buses that can be put into service immediately to serve any of the lines around Atocha.
