MADRID, 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, asked his counterpart from FC Barcelona, ??Joan Laporta, not to pay “so much attention” to the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, because, according to him, “he is wrong” in relation to the income of Spanish clubs for the television rights of professional football.

“@JoanLaportaFCB 4 YEARS ago, 8 @laliga matches were in the basic Movistar package, then they began to charge for these matches as they did with the great match. They are not comparable data. FP already said it and it was explained, don’t pay so much attention to what FP says is wrong on these issues,” said Javier Tebas on his official Twitter account.

Tebas attaches an image in which Florentino Pérez refers to the Real Madrid Members’ Assembly that the number of paying subscribers to LaLiga has dropped “dramatically”, and has gone from 4 million in the 2016-17 season to 2.5 million in the past 2021-22, a drop of almost 40 percent.

“The personal relationship with Tebas is good, but they would have to worry more about recovering the million and a half subscribers that football television has lost, and they would have to worry less about disqualifying clubs like Barça,” Laporta said in a interview in the program ‘Què t’hi jugues!’ of Cadena SER that collects Europa Press.

In this sense, Laporta regretted that Barça entered for television rights the same as the eighth in the ‘Premier League’. “We believe that it is due to a lack of ambition on the part of LaLiga and this is where the League should be tightening, for that reason and to try to correct the drop in television subscribers to football,” he stressed.
