Fifty officers enter through a window of the building after protesters barricaded themselves inside

The New York Police (United States) arrested more than a hundred people this Tuesday night after breaking into Columbia University, where pro-Palestinian protesters have continued their protests after several days and during a day in which they have broken into in the Hamilton Hall building, one of the most emblematic of the educational center, also a symbol of the 1968 mobilizations against the Vietnam War.

Around fifty officers have entered the building through one of the windows on the second floor after the protesters have barricaded themselves inside, according to the American television network CNN.

Before this action, the Police had already urged the students who were camping on campus to leave, at which point a struggle began and the first arrests took place.

According to a university spokesperson, the protesters are not students of the center, and the police’s entry into the campus has been justified by the “occupation”, “vandalism” and “blockade” of the facilities.

The New York Police Department has announced that the campus has already been cleared of the 200 students who until then remained barricaded in Hamilton Hall at Columbia University, which has become the epicenter of protests that have also spread to other educational centers. from the country.

The day before, the university itself began to suspend students for participating in these events, which means that they will not be able to finish the semester or graduate and they will not be allowed access to university housing or academic buildings.

In recent days, Columbia University has become the epicenter of pro-Palestinian protests in the United States, which have spread to numerous universities throughout the country and have resulted in hundreds of arrests.
