VALENCIA, 15 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former president of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has vindicated this Saturday the pardons granted by the Government to the leaders of the independence process in Catalonia that he considers an electoral asset for the municipal and regional elections on May 28 because they will go “with peace and without violence” in all the territories of Spain.

At the inauguration of the PSOE Municipal Convention in Valencia, before several members of the party leadership and hundreds of mayors and candidates for the elections, Zapatero called on the party to thank the Sánchez government’s policy in Catalonia.

In his opinion, thanks to his decisions, the unity of Spain is in a moment of “stability and tranquility”, he pointed out. In addition, he has praised Sánchez’s “leadership with a vision of the future” in applying the pardons in the face of the situation in Catalonia.

For Zapatero, it should be remembered that these next elections are an example because they will be held without violence in any territory of Spain –“neither in the Basque Country nor in Catalonia”–, he has specified, thanks to the pacifying position and the applied dialogue for Sánchez in this community.
