A confrontation between police officers and an armed group has left at least two police officers and five suspected criminals dead in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, after a bloody riot took place this Sunday in a city prison.

The authorities have indicated that the attack is linked to the investigations into the whereabouts of 30 prisoners who escaped this Sunday from the State Center for Social Reintegration (Cereso), according to the Mexican newspaper ‘Excelsior’.

The Police have reported that the two agents who have died were investigating the escape of the prisoners, when several hitmen shot at them. They fled on foot, leaving their vehicles, for which a chase broke out. The other agents killed five of the suspects.

The escape from the prison, according to local information collected by Infobae, began around 6:00 a.m. (local time) with the appearance of an “armed commando aboard between three and six trucks, some armored” at the prison gates. .

Its occupants began to open fire on the security guards and unleashed chaos inside the compound, which some prisoners ended up taking advantage of to escape.
