BERLIN, Oct. 22 (DPA/EP) –
Some 80,000 people – according to the Police – have demonstrated this Saturday in Berlin to show their solidarity against the repression of the recent wave of protests in Iran.
Activists from several European countries have been present at the march, concentrating on the Victory Column in the German capital.
During the night of Friday and early Saturday, many Iranians have traveled from dozens of German cities to the capital to support the protests.
The demonstration has been organized by the group Woman Life Freedom – Woman Life Freedom – which fights against oppression and discrimination in Iran and has had the support of numerous organizations.
Protests in Iran have erupted in the wake of the death of 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in mid-September. The Moral Police had arrested her for not properly complying with the mandatory rule of covering her hair.
Amini died after several days hospitalized on September 16. Since then, thousands of people have demonstrated against the repression and the Iranian system of government.
