MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported this Saturday that the country’s former president, Hu Jintao, was withdrawn from the closing ceremony of the Chinese Communist Party Congress for health reasons.
The closing session was marked by the unusual scene in which Hu was escorted out by a congressional usher, despite the veteran ex-leader’s initial reluctance and to the surprise of international experts.
Now, according to the agency’s website Xinhuanet, Hu Jintao “had insisted on attending the closing ceremony even though he was taking his time to recover” from unspecified health problems.
“Since he was not feeling well during the session, his staff, for his health, escorted him to an adjacent room to rest,” the agency added on its Twitter account. The 79-year-old former president “is much better now.”
