The Emergency Operations Center of the Dominican Republic has raised to four the fatalities due to the effects of the rains recorded in Santo Domingo since Thursday afternoon, while 12 provinces remain on yellow alert due to possible flooding of rivers or floods.
The director of the COE, Juan Manuel Méndez, has reported that the deceased are four men between the ages of 20 and 63, according to ‘Listín Libre’.
In addition, teams from the Humanitarian Rescue Unit and Army agents would have rescued 20 children in the Cuesta Hermosa sector, located in the center of Santo Domingo.
The president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, has suspended his activities scheduled for this Saturday, according to the official account of the Presidency on Twitter, “to respond to those who have been affected by the intense downpours.”
The National Meteorological Office has reported that the rainfall will continue with a similar intensity until Sunday, when it will begin to decrease. For this reason, the COE has maintained a yellow alert in 12 provinces and a green alert in another 9, according to a statement.
