Floods and landslides in the Philippines have left 49 dead during the Christmas holidays, as reported this Sunday by the National Council for the Prevention of Risks and Elimination of Natural Disasters (NDRRMC).
This Sunday’s report indicates that 20 people are still missing, while some 500,000 citizens in more than 30 provinces were affected by bad weather.
At least 51,400 were displaced by floods and landslides and forced to stay in evacuation centers or with their relatives and friends.
Of those 49 deaths, 19 occurred in the province of Misamis Occidental (south), where heavy rains caused flash floods and widespread landslides.
Other southern provinces reported 17 deaths, while 13 deaths occurred in the eastern and western provinces.
Damage to agriculture and infrastructure is estimated at about $25 million, according to the NDRRMC.
