TRIER (GERMANY), 29 Oct. (DPA/EP) –

The Department of the Interior of the German state of Hesse confirmed this Saturday that they are investigating the possible presence of a secret Chinese police station operating illegally in the city of Frankfurt.

“The Hessian authorities are investigating whether there is a Chinese service office or police station in Frankfurt,” said a spokesman for the Hessian Department of the Interior.

However, the spokesman has not revealed whether there is any concrete evidence of the existence of the site, mentioned on Wednesday by Dutch media.

The news pointed to the existence of illegal Chinese police stations in Amsterdam and Rotterdam to operate police work and illegally gather information for Beijing.

The NGO Safeguard Defenders is dedicated to documenting and denouncing human rights violations in China, but has recently published a report and a map of alleged illegal Chinese police stations outside Chinese territory, including one in Frankfurt, two in Madrid, two in Barcelona and one in Valencia and Santiago de Compostela.

The text, published in September, ensures that there are up to 110 illegal Chinese police stations around the world.
