MADRID, 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
California Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy has announced progress during tough internal negotiations within the party, which is discussing the appointment of the representative to leadership in the country’s House of Representatives after four days of failed voting that has revealed the existing fracture within the party between moderates and trumpists.
McCarthy will try to get again this Friday, after eleven failed votes, something unprecedented in 150 years, the 218 votes that will guarantee him the position in the midst of the rejection of former president Donald Trump by congressmen close at the time, who has tried to mediate without success in conversations.
McCarthy’s nomination for this new vote has been confirmed by the congressman, also from California, Mike Garcia, who has asked the Republican caucus to exercise national responsibility. “Actually, this is not about Kevin McCarthy – the issues before us are of an extraordinary magnitude,” he said.
The congressman has confirmed, reports ‘The Hill’, these advances in a morning conversation with party officials, although he has warned them that an agreement has not yet been reached and that negotiations are still ongoing.
The new voting session began around 6:00 p.m., Spanish peninsular time. It should be remembered that McCarthy has obtained approximately 200 votes in previous rounds, far from the necessary minimum.
