MADRID, 2 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Russian authorities have made ugly this Wednesday the decision of Moldova to expel an employee of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, as they consider that it is one more step towards the dismantling of bilateral relations.
“The decision to expel the Russian diplomat was another confirmation of the current Moldovan authorities’ course to dismantle Russian-Moldovan cooperation, which has a multifaceted character and deep historical roots,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zajarova said.
According to the Russian representative, Moldova has been influenced by foreign agents to make this decision, which is part of an “active anti-Russian campaign” promoted by both the “pro-Western” authorities and the media.
Zakharova has accused the media of unfoundedly spreading the idea that Russia poses a military threat to Moldova, and that Russia might interfere in the country’s internal affairs. “This unsubstantiated exaggeration is not supported by any facts,” she has stressed.
“Their real goals are to divert citizens’ attention from the extremely difficult internal political and economic situation in the country, which the current authorities in Chisinau cannot cope with,” Zajarova said.
Finally, the Russian diplomatic spokeswoman has concluded that Moldova is gradually destroying the traditionally friendly ties between two close countries, thus bowing to the interests of Western countries.
The Moldovan Foreign Ministry declared an employee of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau persona non grata on Monday for having violated the provisions of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.
