MADRID, 1 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Former British Health Minister Matt Hancock, a key figure in the government during the worst moments of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been suspended as a ‘tory’ deputy after his participation in the ‘I’m A Celebrity’ program was confirmed. Get Me Out of Here!’, a survival reality show where he will participate alongside other celebrities.
The Conservative Party has considered that the situation is “serious enough” to proceed with this suspension, by virtue of which Hancock will no longer represent his Westminster constituency and will have free rein to go to Australia to live an experience with other public figures, such as the singer Boy George.
Sources close to the former minister have downplayed this turn in his career, alleging that Hancock “does not expect to enter the Government again.” In this sense, he hopes to use the time it lasts in the reality show and the broad visibility of the program — some twelve million viewers — to “promote his campaign on dyslexia,” according to the BBC.
Hancock resigned as health minister in June 2021 after it emerged that he had flouted restrictions during the pandemic to get together with another woman with whom he allegedly had an extramarital affair.
