MADRID, 28 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Ukrainian nuclear company Energoatom, Petro Kotin, has assured that the European country has sufficient reserves of nuclear fuel to face at least the next two years.

Ukraine suspended its import of Russian nuclear fuel with the outbreak of the war, more than nine months ago, which has raised concerns about the level of the country’s reserves that Kotin himself has tried to nip in the bud.

In this sense, Kotin has recognized that Energoatom is collaborating with the American Westinghouse Electric to promote a Ukrainian own nuclear fuel production line, reported the UNIAN news agency.

“We already produce heads and tails of fuel cartridges that have been licensed by this American company. So, we will produce half ourselves and the other half will be supplied by Westinghouse,” Kotin said.

Ukrainian energy infrastructures have been since the beginning of the war, and especially in recent months, the target of Russian attacks. According to the Ukrainian authorities, Russia has destroyed more than 50 percent of the country’s energy capacities.
