MADRID, 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed this Wednesday on its list of intangible cultural heritage the manufacturing process and culture of the baguette, the most popular type of bread in France.

The committee that examines the candidacies has taken into account the special characteristics of the process, the techniques required and the consumption patterns and social practices that go hand in hand: “a daily purchase that entails regular visits to bakeries; an elongated shape that requires specific exhibitions “.

The candidacy, presented in March 2021 and definitively approved at a meeting held in Rabat (Morocco), also has the endorsement of the French bakers’ union, who hope to thus consolidate one of the country’s gastronomic symbols.

The Minister of Culture of France, Rima Abdul Malak, has also applauded the “recognition for artisans and those unifying places that are bakeries”. The baguette, she has added, is “part of the daily life of the French”.
