MADRID, 29 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of El Salvador announced this Friday that a total of 56,000 gang members have been arrested since the state of emergency was decreed in the country, a mechanism that allows the Salvadoran State to suspend certain freedoms and guarantees.

This has been detailed by the Presidency of El Salvador, which has described as “irrefutable” the results achieved after the implementation of the measure by order of the country’s president, Nayib Bukele.

“The results of the security strategy implemented by the government of President Nayib Bukele are irrefutable. So far in the emergency regime, the security forces have captured more than 56,000 gang members,” reported the press office of the Presidency. in a message on Twitter.

Likewise, the Executive of El Salvador has praised the president’s management alleging that the State is now “the safest country in the world”, a fact that would have been possible thanks to “public policies in favor of the Salvadoran population.”

“The historic results of the war against the gangs lay the foundations for a new El Salvador that we are building, a country where Salvadorans walk safely anywhere in the territory,” states another message on the Presidency’s social network, underlining that the country has 227 without homicides.

Bukele, who will stand for re-election in 2024, has defended the state of emergency as a key instrument of his security plan, against human rights organizations that question the excessive powers granted by this regime to the security forces. .
