US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has affirmed his belief that Ukrainian troops could soon retake the city of Kherson, arguing that, above all, the Ukrainians have faith that they can do so.
Asked about the possibility that the Ukrainian Army “recovers” the remaining territory of Kherson and that Russian troops withdraw from the area, Austin has detailed that “clearly” it is something that could happen.
“As for the question of whether or not the Ukrainians can take the remaining territory on the west bank of the Dnieper River in Kherson, I certainly think that they clearly have the ability to do so. More importantly, the Ukrainians believe they have the ability to do so”, he asserted during a press conference.
In this sense, the US Secretary of Defense has pointed out that the United States has observed in recent weeks a “very effective methodical effort” by the Ukrainian troops to “recover their sovereign territory.”
“I think they will keep pushing until they secure the territory on the west side of the river,” Austin added.
