The city of València, represented by the Councilor for Innovation, Technology, Digital Agenda and Investment Capture of the Valencia City Council, Paula Llobet, participates in eMerge Americas 2024, the “most important technological event in the United States” and Latin America that is held these days in Miami.

The business mission, organized by Ivace and ICEX in collaboration with Invest in València and Las Naves, aims to build an alliance between the cities of València and Miami, and open new business opportunities for València and its business ecosystem.

The Councilor for Innovation is holding meetings with the main innovation, technology, training and investment agents to establish collaborations that will attract talent, investment and companies to Valencia.

“In addition to helping the Valencian innovative ecosystem to scale by opening new markets and clients. We want our startups to grow and to do so we are going to establish alliances with other international hubs that will facilitate that path,” said the Councilor for Innovation.

Paula Llobet has shared the city’s innovation strategy, València Innovation Capital, and València European Green Capital, in eMerge Americas.

This fair has “a great global impact”, bringing together more than 250 exhibiting companies, more than 200 speakers and more than 20,000 visitors from 50 countries.

Miami has become the reference hub on the American continent, as a junction between North America and Central America, and “València wants to become Miami’s technological bridge with Europe,” Llobet highlighted.

“The rise of the innovative ecosystem of the city of Valencia arouses the interest of international agents. Congresses like this help us to value the innovative and technological ecosystem of Valencia at an international level,” says the mayor.

“We have explained all the initiatives that we are deploying within the framework of Valencia Innovation Capital such as, for example, Valencia Game City, focused on gaming and esports, and we have also highlighted the attractiveness of our city to attract foreign investments by all means. facilities that we are providing so that they can settle in La Harinera, as a soft landing center, and all the advantages that our location offers. During the first day, Llobet met with the mayor of Miami-Dade County, Daniella Levine, and those responsible for innovation and economic development. This county has nearly 3 million inhabitants and is made up of more than 20 cities, the most important being the city of Miami, with whose mayor, Francis X. Suárez, he met yesterday.

The purpose of these meetings is to establish alliances to collaborate in different areas with benefits for both Valencia, the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County.

Additionally, within the framework of eMerge, the councilor has held meetings with the Tampa city council; Delta Air Lines; Alejandra Winter, director of the Cambridge Innovation Center; Galen Treuer, climate technology and economic innovation expert in Miami Dade County; with the University of; and Mónica Vázquez, head of ABANCA USA and president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United States.

In this business mission, which is part of the alliance program with other international hubs within the València Innovation Capital strategy, Paula Llobet has also taken the opportunity to get to know Mana Tech, an entrepreneurship center where international entrepreneurs are connected with investors, mentors and organizations from Miami through acceleration programs, events, entrepreneurship activities and spaces; and Miami – Dade College (BIT Center) which has highly prestigious schools and centers such as the Miami Culinary Institute, the Miami Animation

The councilor will also visit Port of Miami, the largest passenger port in the world and one of the largest cargo ports in the United States, the FIFA offices in the city, and BDO Miami.

Regarding tourism, the councilor has held a meeting with specialized journalists, with the aim of attracting more North American tourists, because according to Llobet, “the North American market is strategic for the city of Valencia, because they are tourists with high purchasing power and respectful of the city.” In 2023 this market closed with 230,000 overnight stays, 14% more compared to 2022. In the first two months of 2024, the increase has been 24% compared to the same period last year, approaching 25,000 overnight stays.
